The hardness of quenched steel is generally above 45HRC, the plastic deformation during processing is poor, the cutting resistance is large, and the cutting temperature is high. If the hardness of the tool material is low, the tool will be difficult to cut and easy to wear (especially in inner hole machining). When roughing hardened steel parts, due to the large amount of cutting and large vibration, CNC inserts with high strength and impact resistance must be selected. The reasonable cutting amount during processing is: cutting speed 30~45m/min, feed rate 0.15~0.3mm/r, cutting depth 0.4~1.2mm.
Cubic boron nitride tool (PCBN tool) hard turning of quenched steel: the most suitable for steel with hardness above HRC55 after quenching. For continuous and slightly interrupted hard turning of hardened steel, and the cutting depth of hardened steel is less than 0.3mm, SBH150 tool grade can be selected. When heavy interrupted hard turning is to process hardened steel, we can choose SBH130.
