Mill Rolls used CBN Inserts From SCBN Tools

• Mill Rolls is the main workpiece and tool that makes the metal continuously plastically deform on the rolling mill. There are many classification methods of rolls, mainly including:

  
  

  (1) According to the product type, there are strip steel rolls, section steel rolls, wire rod rolls, etc.;

  (2) According to the position of the rolls in the rolling mill series, there are billet rolls, rough rolls, Finishing rolls, etc.; according to product materials, there are hot rolls, cold rolls, etc.

• Common rolling mill rolls include forging rolls (forged steel rolls), casting rolls (chilled cast iron rolls), high-speed steel rolls, tungsten steel rolls (tungsten carbide roll rings), etc. The hardness of these materials is very high, the machining allowance is large, and the workpiece is difficult to process. In particular, there are often some casting defects in casting rolls, such as pores, sand holes, etc., which are naturally a big challenge to the roll machining tool.

When we encounter these high-hardness rolls and difficult-to-machine rolls, how to choose a right tool for machining rolls?

For the selection of high hardness roll machining tools, SCBN Tools recommends Solid CBN inserts. Compared with traditional CBN Tools, this roll CBN insert has the following advantages:

• 1. It can be cut with a large margin. According to the selected model, the maximum cut can be 7-8mm.

• 2. The performance is more stable. When encountering casting defects, it is easy to form intermittent cutting, and the Solid CBN insert is not easy to break.

• 3. More cutting edges, more economical. When Solid CBN　insert　is used to process the roll, the cutting edge is more than that of the ordinary blade. For example, a circular blade can be used as a blade cutting edge, which greatly reduces the use cost of the tool.

Processing material: high nickel-chromium alloy cast iron roll;

Workpiece hardness: HSD80;

Tool grade: SBK 800;

Cutting parameters: ap=4mm; Fr=1mm/r; Vc=55m/min;

Processing method: dry cutting.

Machining effect: The life span of SBK800 and European ceramic inserts is more than doubled.

• 2. The case of CBN tool SBN900 material processing high speed steel roll

Processing material: high speed steel roll

Workpiece hardness: HSD90

Optional blade: SBN900 RCMX120700

Cutting parameters: Fr=0.2mm/r, Vc=35m/min, ap=2.5mm

Processing effect: Compared with a company's CBN tool, the SBN700 material has double the tool life and normal wear and tear.
